Elvégezte a felsőbb szőlő- és borgazdasági tanfolyamot. 1901-ben a Földtani Intézetbe került, 1905-től az Ampelológiai Intézetben dolgozott, amelynek 1920-tól igazgatója, később kísérletügyi főigazgatója volt. Kezdeményezte a Balatonedericsen fölállított Állami Szénkéneggyárat. Megalapította és igazgatta az első Magyar Állami Borkősavgyárat. Előkészítette az 1936. évi bortörvényt. Szakirodalmi munkásságát főleg az Ampelológiai Intézet évkönyveiben tette közzé. A kairói (1926), a barcelonai (1929), a párizsi (1937) világkiállítások magyar mezőgazdasági anyagának összeállítója. 1938-ban megkapta a Francia Becsületrend Parancsnoki Keresztjét. A Borászati Lapokban és más folyóiratokban számtalan írása jelent meg. 1942-ben nyugdíjba ment, mivel látása nagyon romlott. A felszabadulás után sok sérelem érte, Budapestről kitelepítették és Balatonfüredre költözött.
